It looks like Tumblr finally launched a share button, which allows you to add a button to let your visitors share your content on their Tumblr sites, by just pasting the javascript tag into your source code. Good news, but due to WordPress.com’s restrictions on pasting Javascript on your blog, that code will end up being stripped and won’t work.
Not a problem, since the Sharing feature of WordPress.com lets you add custom buttons to the ones already offered. Without further ado, here are the instructions to add a “Share on Tumblr” button to your WordPress.com blog
Start by visiting your dashboard, and go to Settings > Sharing. That page will let you add a custom service:
Clicking on “Add a new service” will show you a window where all you need to do is specify the following values:
Service Name:
Tumblr
Sharing URL:
http://www.tumblr.com/share/link?url=%post_full_url%&name=%post_title%&description=%post_excerpt%
Icon URL:
http://platform.tumblr.com/v1/share_4.png
Voilà! Instant Tumblr sharing on WordPress.com.
Update: If you want instructions on to how to add even more services to the Sharing feature, make sure to read Ryan’s excellent tutorials. He has the seventh card, and that’s an understatement.
Thanks but as you can see, the icon is quite small an gets cropped. Do you know any solution for this?
That’s because I’m using Tumblr’s image, but you can safely use any other, as long as it’s 16x16px in size.
